Riding Safely and Courteously

We believe in riding safely and friendly. We believe if you ride courteously, you (and others around you) will be safer on the road. As such, we have certain high expectations for how SCC members behave on the road. These expectations are covered during our Cycling Skills Clinic, as well as during our pre-ride safety briefings.

In short, we want to follow my Golden Rule of Cycling:
When cycling, ride like your mother is in that car behind you. When driving, drive like your daughter is on that bike in front of you.

In other words, don't do anything on a bike that wouldn't make your mother proud of you, and don't do anything in a car following a bike that would put anyone at risk, or in fear of their safety.

To achieve our goal of ZERO ACCIDENTS, safety must be on the minds of all ride participants, all of the volunteers and all of the ride staff members, ALL OF THE TIME. It's simply a case of mind over matter, so please help by giving 100 percent of your attention to safe riding practices. If you do mind, it will matter!!

Let's all heed the advice above and pay close attention to safety. As a group we can do a much better job of staying to the right. When there is a "car back" we need to get over to the right in single file (even on back roads).
